A hummingbird's heart can beat up to 1,200 times per minute during flight, compared to a human's resting heart rate of 60 to 100 beats per minute. Even at rest, a hummingbird’s heart rate averages around 250 beats per minute because their rapid metabolism is essential for the energy needed to hover and feed on nectar.
