San Pedro de Atacama hides circular sinkhole lagoons called Ojos del Salar, a natural pool formed when the salt crust collapses over groundwater. The water can be so mineral rich that you float like a cork, and scientists study its hardy microbes as analogs for life in extreme worlds.
